PHASE 4 – 2023+

METRO AREAS

NATURE
Countryside, forests, mountains, deserts, jungles…

The 6529 Museum District is the first district of the first city – Genesis City – in what we hope will be a vast decentralized world – OM. Its goal is to be the top location in the world for people to learn about NFTs.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS THE MISSION OF OM?

To create a decentralized Open Metaverse (OM), bridging virtual and physical spaces, that people use in their day-to-day lives.

WHAT ARE THE KEY DESIGN PARAMETERS OF OM?

  • That it is decentralized and community-driven
  • That it is composable & interoperable
  • That the quality of experience is good enough that people use it daily
  • That it scales to a size and scope that can compete with Web 2 metaverses

WHAT IS TODAY’S LAUNCH?

The alpha version of the first district (6529 Museum District), of the first city (Genesis City) in OM.

The 6529 Museum District contains the galleries of the 6529 Museum and the personal collections of the 6529 Capital collecting team.

WHAT COMES NEXT?

The 6529 Museum District is a sandbox for us to:

  • Test different experiences off-chain to get user feedback
  • Improve the technology platform
  • Work with community & partners to brainstorm experiences, districts and launch parameters

As always, the plan is to build in public.

Our current target is that by summer 2022:

  • We gain enough confidence in usage models
  • We feel confident enough to move key parameters on-chain
  • Once on-chain, we can open some districts to general availability

WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE?

The vision is:

  • Thousands of self-governing districts
  • Comprising dozens of self-governing cities
  • With different missions, cultures and priorities
  • Linked within a vast virtual landscape
  • Bridged to the physical world
  • Global distributed, decentralized infrastructure

OM, the virtual layer, is part of puzzle.

The bridge to the physical world will come later this year.

WHY DID YOU START WITH MUSEUMS?

It is always best to start with a problem that you are familiar with. The 6529 Museum District collections have, in aggregate, have over 2,000 NFTs and we were not happy with how we were curating them up until now.

We think this is the best visual display of NFTs to-date and will only get better from here.

Also, this is probably the most valuable set of NFTs ever displayed together in one unified space.

ARE THE MUSEUMS AND THE MUSEUM DISTRICT COMPLETE?

No, just getting started! The goal is for this district to be the best onboarding and educational resource in the world for NFTs.

We are still adding, building and rebuilding the museums, the curation, the galleries, the curational signage.

We are starting to plan our education and curational program, with artists, collectors and art historians, and then some surprises after that.

WHAT IS THIS FIRST CITY CALLED?

Genesis City.

Each district in each city will be named as it chooses – for example, the 6529 Museum District is called that because it has the 6529 Museums.

IS OM THE OPEN METAVERSE?

It is a metaverse operating with Open Metaverse goals. The ultimate goal is for the internet itself to be the Open Metaverse.

IS OM SHORT FOR OPEN METAVERSE?

Yes, in fact, it is.

AREN’T THERE OTHER METAVERSES?

Yes, many!

We are 100% supportive of all the other decentralized metaverses, many of which have been pioneers and have extensive ecosystems. We are glad they are operating and want to try a somewhat different experiment. The more decentralized experiments we do, the more likely one will work. We have some ideas about visualization, architecture and incentives that we would like to try that are different.

There are also many metaverses that are, in effect, centralized. They may or may not have nice features but they don’t match up with the 6529 mission. We wish them the best also, but it is not our direction.

IS THIS 6529’S CITY?

No. We are building a viable horizontal world open to all.

Once it is built, we may run spaces or buildings or districts in this world, just like anyone else.

But I do not aspire to be the mayor of 5,000 districts; instead I would like to watch 5,000 different communities blossom.

YES, WE ARE LOOKING FOR PARTNERS!

The whole idea is to build OM together and to do that we need to talk to as many people and organizations as possible to understand what they might want to do.

If you are an organization or individual who has an idea about a space, a building or a district, please contact us here.

SPACES/LAND/DISTRICT DROPS?

All of this will happen progressively, starting small and increasing in size, as we gain confidence in what works. We have been building and running our internal alpha for 8 months now!

So we are going to go on this journey together.

We disagree with teams that sell metaverse games/land based on a few screenshots and no working product.

You should not encourage them by giving them your ETH – “force” them to show you their vision first.

OK, OK, SURE BUT AM I GOING TO MISS OUT ON THE LAND DROP?

No, we are not going to FOMO you on land.

Space is abundant in metaverse and people who tell you otherwise, well, we think those takes will not age very well.

It is like trying to sell the idea, in 1995, that webpage space will be limited.

I SEE PORTALS?

OM’s architecture has a hybrid 3D + portal-based model.

We think this can lead to a richer and denser world that fully explores the potential of a digital world.

WHY ARE YOU USING ONCYBER?

Rayan and the team are great, but that is not the real reason.

We are aligned with OnCyber’s approach in two dimensions: potential for decentralization and iterative design.

As it relates to decentralization, OnCyber follows an approach that creates files that render locally in the browser. Even though this is a much harder route than, say, running Unreal Engine on the server-side, we believe client-side rendering is the only currently viable approach for a decentralized open metaverse.

As it relates to iterative design, we appreciate OnCyber’s staged approach to testing and iterating. It matches with our view on how to approach this space.

IS ONCYBER DECENTRALIZED?

Partially, and is committed to going all the way.

OnCyber is sufficiently decentralized already that, even if it disappeared tomorrow, we could rebuild the OM elsewhere with a manageable amount of work.

We believe by summer OM will be sufficiently decentralized and on-chain to allow us to open up more generally.

HOW WOULD PARTICIPATING IN AN OM SPACE BE DIFFERENT THAN MAKING AN ONCYBER SPACE?

It is the same! You would still have your space in both cases, but in the case of OM, you would also have your space in a vast and interesting virtual world.

SHOULD I BUILD AN ONCYBER WORLD MYSELF?

You can (and some huge teams will), but it is a big project.  We have invested 7 figures so far in the 6529 Museum District alone. In time, reaching competitive scale vs other Web 2 metaverses is probably a multi-billion dollar scale project.

We think small metaverses and games will not make it in the long-run against huge Web 2 competitors and so we should band together to scale up.

So unless you have huge ambitions and the resources/capacity to deliver them in a horizontal manner (which we support), we would love to join forces with you in OM.

WHAT WOULD I NEED TO RUN THE CITY?

A modern computer/laptop or phone with a pretty good GPU. If you have a laptop with a dedicated and integrated GPU, set your browser to use the dedicated GPU.

We are continually improving rendering performance but a decent to good GPU is needed to have a good experience. PCs are probably better than most mobiles for the larger spaces / galleries for now.

ARE YOU BUILDING A GAME?

Our goal is to serve more practical needs. We encourage others to build games in OM if they like.
