From the Fediverse: Federal data is disappearing — and the open community is tracking it @petersuber@fediscience.org shared that over the past 18 months, at least 28 federal datasets have been deleted and another 338 data collections modified, per a tracker from dataindex.us. Peter Suber is one of the leading voices in open access, and this is a direct alert about the erasure of public knowledge. This is exactly why permissionless, decentralized, free-culture infrastructure matters. When state-controlled datasets can be quietly deleted, the case for CC0, public-domain archives, and community-run mirrors becomes urgent. Information that belongs to the public should not be contingent on whoever holds office. https://fediscience.org/@petersuber/117116860815090395
