Managed Freedom 2023 Kayseri, Turkey "Managed Freedom" explores the tension between openness and control through the movement of a horse herd across an empty landscape in central Turkey. Although the scene appears unrestricted, the herd’s behavior is still shaped by riders, training, hierarchy, and invisible boundaries. The image reflects on how authority can exist without physical fences or visible barriers. The open plain functions almost like a borderland, where movement feels free while still being directed and monitored. At the same time, the herd itself resembles a self-organized system adapting collectively outside formal structures or official chokepoints. The photograph itself also connects horses to ideas of migration, departure, refusal, evasion, shelter, invisibility, and the quiet act of leaving. It aims to show freedom not as absolute, but as something constantly negotiated within systems of control. Canon 5D Mark IV 24–105mm lens at 70mm ISO 800, f/4, 1/1250s The image was captured by hand during active movement across a rugged landscape. Editing was limited to slight rotation adjustments and mild color correction to preserve the natural atmosphere of the original scene. No AI manipulation was used. I, Nasim Ghanizadeh, declare that if this piece is selected and purchased by the 6529 Network Museum, this work will be released under CC0 and I have full rights to make that release.
