Centro Multimedia is a research, production, training, and documentation center. No collecting remit was found in the sources reviewed. Its Virtual Library gathers catalogues, essays, exhibition booklets, augmented-reality stories, and files produced by the Center. The library makes program history part of the public record while leaving production support, research, and collection custody as separate questions.

Demonstrated practices

1. Laboratories organize a public research program

The official Centro Multimedia profile records a 1994 founding and seven laboratories, including sound experimentation, digital visualities, robotics and complex systems, research in arts and technologies, extended realities and videogames, and digital publications. Its programs cover training, dissemination, production support, residencies, and research and experimentation.

The structure gives a project a place in a research ecology: laboratory, program, collaborators, production stage, and public result can be recorded without claiming that every supported work entered a permanent collection.

2. The Virtual Library preserves publication and program memory

Centro Multimedia describes the Virtual Library as a place for analog and digital publications produced by the Center. Its holdings include catalogues, essays, exhibition booklets, augmented-reality stories, and files. The publication archive is therefore evidence of how the institution taught, exhibited, and debated electronic art in Mexico.

3. Audiovisual records receive a separate archive

The Audiovisual Archive of Centro Multimedia describes a database of audiovisual material produced between 1994 and 2002. Its separate interface makes event and program documentation discoverable without presenting documentation as equivalent to the works documented.

4. The program remains active

The Mexican government announcement “El Centro Multimedia del CENART inicia 2026…”, dated 13 January 2026, records continuing workshops, seminars, exhibitions, talks, and exploration across transmedia, videogames, animation, philosophy, digital image, and editorial practice. The dated program extends the institutional history beyond the archive's earlier holdings.

Publication and scholarship

Centro Multimedia's Spanish-language publication style is programmatic and archival. Laboratory work, exhibitions, seminars, residencies, and publications appear as connected forms of research. The writing lesson is to preserve the sequence from question to experiment to public artifact, while naming the institutional role at each stage.

What the Museum should adopt

• Create project and program records distinct from accession records.
• Record laboratory, residency, collaborator, toolchain, production, publication, and exhibition relationships.
• Preserve catalogues, essays, exhibition booklets, talks, and audiovisual documentation as citable research objects.
• Provide original-language sources and identify translation status.
• State whether the Museum commissioned, produced, exhibited, documented, hosted, or acquired a work.

Where the analogy ends

Public evidence reviewed does not establish a Centro Multimedia accession or digital-conservation policy. Its archive demonstrates research infrastructure and cultural memory, not permanent custody of every project. 6529 should adopt the lifecycle and publication logic without converting production support into accession.
